Here are some terms that are regularly used in the world of Asian weddings and corporate events for your reference.
Asian Wedding – This is the generic term given to a variety of different religious weddings such as Indian weddings, for example, which are often lavish occasions.
Audio Visual Equipment - The type of light, sound and projection equipment used at weddings and events.
Backdrop - Any form of prop that is larger than average and sits towards the back or front of a venue such as LOVE signs and other similar products.
Balustrade – Made from a lightweight material yet strong enough to be freestanding, balustrade comes in panels, pillars and urn varieties which, when used together, provides the facility to separate areas within a wedding marquee or venue.
Bhangra Dancer - A traditional type of Punjabi dancer, often found as entertainment at Asian weddings.
Bollywood String Quartet - An example of a group of musicians who specialise in string instruments and playing Bollywood style music, perfect for Asian weddings and corporate events.
Cake – Cakes are traditional sweet foods that is always present at weddings though they exist in many different shapes, sizes, colours and tastes.
Candelabra - A type of large candlestick with multiple arms used for table and venue decoration.
Catering – Catering is the generic term given to the preparation and delivering of food at events.
Celebrity Performances – The RAAJ offers a range of celebrity performers who can be booked to appear and perform at your wedding or event.
Chair Cover – These are pieces of fabric, usually stretch fabric, which can be fitted over chairs to provide additional colour or style at an Asian wedding or event, for instance. Chair covers are particularly useful for when chairs in a venue are not of the required colour or condition for a specific purpose.
Chair – Chairs are available in a variety of different styles, with chairs such as Chiavari chairs and Cheltenham chairs being particularly suitable for Asian weddings and events.
Chair Sash – This is a thin strip of material which can be used simply to tie around a chair or used together with chair covers to provide colour and style at an event.
Cheltenham Chair – This style of chair has vertical batons on the back and a cushioned seat pad. They are often available in a variety of different colours and are ideal for the purposes of wedding banquets and other similar dining occasions.
Chequered Dance Floor – This is another name for a black and white dance floor. These dance floors are often available in the form of interlocking panels which, when fitted together, provide a solid and stable area for your guests to dance at your wedding or event.
Chiavari Chair – The classic wedding chair which has both vertical and horizontal batons on the back and a padded seat. Chiavari wedding chairs are often available in a variety of different colours such as white, limewash and other colours, which are perfectly suited to weddings and events.
Chocolate Fountain - A method of serving a chocolate dessert where liquid chocolate comes out of the top of a fountain and runs down the side of the table top structure, allowing guests to dip sweet items such as strawberries, fruits, marshmallows and other foods on skewers into the chocolate.
Cocktail Bar – These are temporary bars that can be delivered to any event and easily set up, providing a modern, professional and stylish temporary bar for your Asian wedding or event.
Crockery – This is a generic term given to porcelain or china items such as dinner and side plates, coffee cups and much more, used for the consumption of food and drink.
Cuisine – A term used to describe types of foods such as Asian cuisine, Indian cuisine and so on.
Cutlery – This the term used for describing eating implements such as knives, forks and spoons. The RAAJ has a variety of different cutlery styles ranging from traditional cutlery design through to more modern and contemporary designs from which you can choose.
Dance Floor – A key element of any celebratory occasion such as a wedding or party for example. Dance floors come in panels which are interlocking and so you can choose both the design of your dance floor as well as customising the size of the dance floor, providing your guests with a designated area to dance the night away.
Dhol & Band Baja - Drummers and musicians who are experts at providing musical entertainment for Asian weddings and corporate events.
DJ – An individual who provides the evening entertainment at an Asian wedding or corporate event.
Drape - Material that is similar to large curtains that are used in and around a venue as part of the decor and styling.
Event Security – The people used to ensure that your guests and their belongings are safe and secure at your event.
Furniture – The generic term given to chairs, tables, dance floors, mobile bars and a wealth of other products that are used, in this instance, for Asian weddings and Asian-themed corporate events.
Ghost Chair – These are chairs that are transparent and see-through and are a modern-style dining chair that are perfect for high quality weddings and corporate events.
Gold Chiavari Chair - One of the colours within our Chiavari chairs range, this being a goldwash / antique gold style Chiavari chair which are extremely popular for Asian weddings.
Glassware – The generic name given to wine glasses, beer glasses, water jugs and any other glass-type vessel which is used for the consumption of drinks.
Hairdressing – The process of setting and styling hair to different designs.
Henna – A type of temporary body art.
High Back Chair – A style of chair which is particularly popular for weddings and corporate events. Available in natural wood or black, these chairs have high, patterned backs, and a cushioned seat pad, the colour of which you can choose from red, green, gold, ivory, blue or black.
Illuminated Sign - A type of freestanding sign that is usually either 4ft or 6ft in height, and often spelling our emotive words synonymous with weddings such as LOVE or the initals of the bride and groom.
Ladies Sangeet - This is the gathering of the bride, her female relations and close friends in the lead up to the wedding day for a celebration of music, laughter and celebration for which music artists are sometimes hired to perform at the sangeet occasion.
Lazy Susan - A product which sits in the middle of a table and which revolves so that guests don't need to get up or reach over to enjoy all the foods that are placed in or on the lazy susan.
LED Bar – This is a type of temporary bar that illuminates, and is perfect for celebration events such as weddings and parties. The LED bars from The RAAJ are modular sections and can be used either singularly or as part of a larger bar. The bars have a white perspex frontage which can be illuminated by LED bars behind this – you can set the colours to rotate through purple, green, yellow and red, or alternatively set it to a constant colour if you wish.
LED Dance Floors - A type of dance floor which has small LEDs built into the dance floor panels which illuminate, making them perfect for Asian weddings and events.
Lighting – The generic term given to the professional source of lighting for weddings and events, which can be bright or dimmed and available in a variety of colours.
Limewash Chiavari Chair - One of the most popular colours of Chiavari chairs for weddings due to the fact that their neutral colour complements most event styling and decor.
Limousine – These are large cars, designed for luxury travel, usually longer than average cars, and sometimes called ‘stretch limousines’. Perfect for transporting the wedding party to and from a venue.
Linen – This is a generic term used to describe fabric items such as tablecloths, napkins, chair covers and ties, for example, all of which can be matched to specific colour schemes where needed.
Make Up – This is carried out by specialised make-up artists.
Mandap – A ceremonial wedding prop under which the bride and groom are married at an Asian wedding.
Marquee – A temporary tent-style structure in which weddings, parties and other events can take place.
Mobile Bar – This is another name for a temporary bar at a wedding or event. These are normally available in a variety of different styles and are usually modular, meaning that you can customise the shape and size of your temporary bar according to your available space and the number of guests for which you are catering.
Napkin – This is the square of linen at individual table place settings.
Photo Booth - A small portable cabin-type structure into which people can go and have their photo taken automatically and then printed out almost instantaneously.

Pianists - Professional musicians trained in playing the piano who, in this case, are available to perform Bollywood classics and other requests at Asian weddings and corporate events.
Props – This is the generic term given to any type of decorative or ornamental piece used to create a theme at an Asian wedding or corporate event.
Rectangular Dining Table – These oblong dining tables are usually used for wedding top tables and are available in a variety of different sizes.
Round Dining Table – These are the most popular types of tables as they enable all guests sitting at them to be facing each other, providing the most sociable of table settings. Round tables come in a variety of different sizes, with larger tables accommodating more guests and vice versa. These tables come with metal folding legs, and plywood table tops.
Security – You want to make sure that everything goes smoothly at your event and that is why security is always a good idea – security for the car park and screening the guests when they arrive at your wedding or event.
Sweet Cart - A type of prop onto which boiled sweets and traditional sweets can be placed for the consumption and enjoyment of the guests, often found at Asian weddings.
Table – A piece of furniture around which guests sit with the aim to socialising, eating and drinking.
Tablecloth – The piece of fabric which sits on top of tables to provide an elegant or colourful finish, tie-ing in your tables with your colour scheme.
Throne - A larger than average sized chair, usually with ornate and intricate decoration, often used by the bride and groom for Asian weddings. The thrones are normally one of the centrepieces of the stage, sitting under the mandap.
Toastmaster - A person who ensures that the wedding ceremony and occasion runs accroding to plan and timings, guiding the guests through the various phases of the day.
Tut-tuts - A type of motorised rickshaw, which can used as a prop for Asian weddings and events.
White Chiavari Chair - A particular colour of Chiavari chair, with white wedding chair hire always being popular.
Videography – The name given to the process of capturing weddings and events on video. Whilst this can be done by amateurs, professional videographers usually provide the best results.
Venue - The location, in this instance, for a wedding or event.
Video Dance Floors - A type of cutting-edge dance floor onto which videos and images can be projected.
VIP Ropes & Posts – These are chrome posts with coloured ropes (usually red, blue or black) which – when positioned alongside each other – provide a welcoming feel to your wedding or event, and are often combined with a red carpet in the entrance foyer of special occasions.
White Dance Floor – This is a dance floor which is all white in colour, except for the sloping metal strip that sits on the perimeter of the dance floor, making it accessible for everyone. White dance floors come in interlocking panels which means that they are both easy to assemble and also you can customise the size of your dance floor to suit your specific requirements both in terms of available space and the number of guests you are expecting.
Wooden Bar – This is a traditional bar which is made in mahogany and even comes with a brass footrail.
Wooden Dance Floor – This is also known as parquet dance floor. These dancefloors come in interlocking panels which can be fitted together without the need for screws or tools. The RAAJ team can install your dance floor at your wedding venue.
